Origin Story
Metal detecting beaches looks simple. Walk the sand, swing the coil, dig the signals. But after a few seasons on the East Coast, you realize the difference between a great session and a skunked morning comes down to timing, and timing comes down to data most detectorists have no easy way to read.
TargetAtlas started in 2026 because Chris got tired of making gut-call decisions on which beach to drive to. Three years of detecting from Virginia Beach to the Outer Banks, and the process was always the same: check the tide chart, eyeball the wind forecast, text a few friends, hope for the best.
There had to be a better way.
The intelligence already existed: NOAA tide stations, wind data, storm surge models, geological surveys showing where shell hash concentrates and where sand washes clean. No one had put it together specifically for the detecting community, scored it in a way that was actionable, and explained the reasoning clearly enough that even a beginner could trust it.
That's what TargetAtlas is. Not a weather app with a metal detecting theme. Not a tide chart with a pretty face. A genuine intelligence layer, built from the ground up for this specific hobby, that tells you where to be, when to be there, and why the math says so.
The East Coast is just the beginning.
